Issue with Pilling (bamboo sheets)
Our bamboo is an organic and natural textile, which has not been treated with harmful chemicals. As with all-natural fabrics, the bamboo may experience slight pilling with initial use, however, this is reduced or removed during the washing and drying process (as per the care instructions). This is normal for natural fibres, especially in response to friction and isn't a fault or defect.
Bamboo can be a delicate material so it should be hand washed when possible otherwise washed in a room temperate gentle machine wash in a delicates bag using only mild detergent.
How to Remove Pilling
To remove the pilling, you can use a disposable razor to shave it. But please make sure not to cut the fabric.
When washing your sheets, please do not use hot water as it will cause your sheets to pill. Use cold wash and on a gentle cycle in a delicates bag if you are using a washing machine and only use mild detergent.
When drying, we advise not to use a dryer. As much as possible, please air dry, avoid direct sunlight, and do not leave it to dry for a long time as it can increase the lint on your sheets.
How to prevent pilling?
- Wash sheets in cold or lukewarm water. Hot temperatures can cause the fibers to break down and tangle.
- Wash sheets with a small amount of mild detergent. Using too much detergent can cause your sheets to feel too crisp and uncomfortable.
- Do not wash your sheets with bleach as it often erodes fabrics and leads to pilling.
- Do not use fabric conditioner as they may leave stains on the bedding. Additionally, some chemicals in fabric softeners can damage bamboo fiber.
- Low and medium heat works best when drying sheets. But if you’re really concerned about pilling, hang your sheets out to air dry away from direct sunlight.
